Joule Hotel by Tihany Design in downtown Dallas captures the spirit of one of the world’s greatest literary adventures. The concept is the handiwork of Adam D. Tihany of Tihany Design working to the brief of a ‘contemporary boutique’ hotel with ‘Texan sensibility’. Each of the 121 sleek guestrooms and suites is a masterful expression of contemporary design juxtaposed against restored historic finishes. Rooms feature lacquered wood surfaces, richly appointed baths, and original photographs by Bram Tihany. One of the main themes of the design pays homage to Texas as the nation’s leading supplier of wind energy with the hotel also taking its name from a unit of energy. The Joule’s room collection will add 29 new guest suites, one single-story penthouse and two three-story penthouses.

From the breezy sophistication of the cantilevered rooftop pool to the sultry, subterranean pull of the PM Nightlife Lounge, The Joule captures the creative spirit of a city in full bloom, infusing each space with contemporary glamour and artistry. The Joule’s Cellar Bar is accessed from the street through a 14ft high façade wall that pivots to open at night revealing an underground cavern. The stairwell is lit by custom-made tube lights, perhaps a nod to the volcanic tubes leading towards Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth – the inspiration for many of the initial design ideas. The transformation of The Joule combines the talents of top hospitality designers, architects and seasoned consultants. The Joule’s meetings and event space will nearly triple for a total of 14,000 square feet. All meeting and event space will be dressed up with sophisticated design details and Texas-style glamour, including magnificent custom chandeliers and a dramatic oversized exterior all-glass elevator designed to complement the cantilevered glass-front pool on the hotel roof.
