BANQ restaurant by Office dA: Awesome Ceiling and Maximum Inovation- Monday, October 1st 2012.
BANQ restaurant by Office dA is the new restaurant in the old Penny Savings Bank (1375 Washington Street, Boston, MA) at the base of the old banking hall, designed by Office dA. After the building’s reconstruction two segments emerged, the front area programmed to be a bar and the larger hall which would serve as the dining area. The restaurant interior offers unique experience for guests and they’ll be remembering this restaurant design. Office dA managed to overlap any structural problems and create a fancy restaurant out from an abandoned place. Below the ceiling, the functional aspects of a dining space are fabricated with warm woods and laminated bamboo amplifying the striping affect already at play throughout the space. You’re not going to forget BanQ once you walk into it.

The wall and ceilings were decorate using wave element made from unique pieces of three-quarter-inch birch plywood adhered together in a scenario that likens to a puzzle. Striations of the ground, the furnishings, and the ceiling all conspire to create a total effect, embedding the diners into the grain of the restaurant. Combining an economy of means with an intrepid spirit, Office dA gets maximum mileage out of its elegantly simple system. While creating a distinct interior landscape, the ceiling serves as a counterpoint to the exterior. Splashes of green inject color into the woody interior, as seen in the private dining room’s translucent curtain, a resin wait-station screen, and illumination emanating from the wine cove. The ceiling is made of wood, not canvas, but it swoops high and low as if it were billowing in the wind. Soon you notice that walls, floors, and tabletops, and also the bench seating in the booths, are all made of the same dark, richly grained wood. The ceiling remains BANQ restaurant by Office dA most remarkable innovation.
