Curved House by Hufft Projects is a modern residence with distinctive lines. Conceived in plan as a U-shaped form, this residence features a courtyard that allows for a private retreat to an outdoor pool and a custom fire pit. Located in Springfield, MO, Curved House is a private residence surrounded by a signature masonry wall. The house’s material palette is an eclectic mix of brick, ipe, cedar, and Spanish tile.
Western Red Cedar, and various interior finish tiles add to the dramatic expanse of the residence. A signature masonry wall gently curves in two places signifying both the primary entrance and the western wall of the pool cabana. The master wing flanks one side of this central space while the living spaces, a pool cabana, and a view to an adjacent creek form the remainder of the perimeter. The client’s interest in suitability is manifested in numerous locations, which include a photovoltaic array on the cabana roof, a geothermal system, radiant floor heating, and a design which provides natural day lighting and views in every room. The entire Curved House by Hufft Projects utilizes natural daylight and natural ventilation.
The 7,800 sq ft home is built with an eclectic mix of brick, cedar, and Spanish tile. The Curved House by Hufft Projects curving form of the terra cotta Spanish tile reflects, on a more detailed scale, the gesture of the curve. Both the fire pit and the pool’s design play upon the sinuous motif as well. The main materials for the home are aluminum and Western Red Cedar. It is also built in a low impact manner by placing the home on columns and minimizing impervious pavement.
