Spanish Style Home Design Ideas

Spanish Style Home Design revived the architectural traditions of the early Spanish colonies, themselves based on the fanciful Moorish and Mediterranean motifs that influenced residences in the old country. Spanish house plans are houses designed with features derived from Spanish style homes. Spanish Revival house plans are all about making family, friends, and entertaining comfortable and relaxed. Spirited and expressive, Thick masonry walls coated in stucco and red tile roofs function to keep the interior cool. Spanish-inspired homes built in the first decades of the 20th century are usually described as Spanish Colonial Revival, suggesting that they borrow ideas from early settlers.
Spanish Style Home Design may also contain many arches on windows and porches. Arched windows are sometimes made of stained glass or have iron or wooden grilles that create a rustic look. The tiled eat-in kitchen and family room combination has the same rough wood beams. The kitchen features stone countertops, a skylight, breakfast bar and pantry. It opens to the family room, which leads outside to the barbecue patio with fire pit. This style is defined by open, asymmetrical floor plans. Homes are usually one-story and spacious with arcaded walkways and large patios. The foyer and living room have arched doorways, wood flooring, exposed rough wood beams and a raised-hearth stone fireplace that serves as a strong centerpiece. Spanish style homes have low-pitched tile with exposed wooden beans. Windows and doors are typically arched. This treatment is often extended to the interior of Spanish house plans. Spanish house plans are common to California and the Southwest, but may be found throughout the continent as well. Spanish floor plans may be arranged around a central courtyard, where shaded galleries block the hot sun and provide outdoor living space. Modern Spanish style homes draw design elements from Italian, Portuguese, African, and Greek architecture resulting in a more Mediterranean look and feel.
