Unique Building of NaCl House by David Jameson Architect
- Monday, October 29th 2012.
This unique building was designed by Architect David Jameson and it called NaCl House. Uncorrelated to the buildings structure, glazing panels are detailed flush to the exterior surface, eliminating shadows which further inhibit a reading of the buildings scale. The Bethesda, Maryland NaCl House has a Tetris-like white exterior that resembles a natural formation of mineral rock salt, hence its name. Breaking the prescriptive mold of horizontally layered homes NaCl House by David Jameson Architect aspires to render unclear the spatial organization of the project and explore architecture of ambiguous scale.
The NaCl House by David Jameson Architect interior features white walls and light wood floors, along with a mostly neutral color palette for the furnishings. The double-height ceiling in the central living room creates an open and airy vibe. Large windows throughout frame the views of the home’s half-acre site. The wood structure is clad in stucco, with long, linear windows that obscure the scale of the house. The architects helped scout the suburban half-acre site for their clients, and then kept the footings and foundation of a previous house on the site intact. To maintain the low scale common to the neighborhood, they buried the first and second stories into a slope. The architects note that from the front, it appears to be three stories, but from the back, where the slope rises, it looks like one. Inside, blonde ash floors help to reflect the natural light.
The NaCl House by David Jameson Architect exterior composition is read as a single object that reflects a dynamic fluid interior.
